Backstory: After serving faithfully in the Imperial Guard for twenty years, Cort felt the call and joined the pilgrim fleet soon after he mustered out, where he quickly met and joined Father Calvin, whom he constantly refers to as “Colonel” (as per the military pronunciation), much to his annoyance and amusement. He is loud, talkative, and perhaps overly active for a man in his fifties, and will happily swap war stories or drink anyone under the table if the opportunity arises. Despite his tendency to indulge in certain earthly pleasures from time to time, however, he is steadfast, faithful, and able to blend in with more… plebian sectors of the Imperium. He is never seen without his battered lasgun and flak armor (he refuses to upgrade to anything better), and has an augmetic left arm – the original was lost to a Chaos Cultist’s chainsword, and replaced by Calvin. His appearance is characterized by his rough beard (nobody yells at him to shave since he mustered out) and impressive set of scars, as well as a single gold tooth.

Backstory: A victim of Malfi’s endless intrigues, Holt’s promising career in the Departamento Munitorum was dashed by a convoluted series of plots and unfortunate events that lead to his exile into a pilgrim fleet with little more than the robes on his back and an Autoquill. Despite – or perhaps because of – his upbringing, he managed to hold his own during the fleet’s crisis and end up more or less unscathed – and into Calvin’s personal circle. Despite his professed repudiation of all things political (he refuses any offers of advancement in rank), he has thus far proven himself to be quite capable of detecting and evaluating political rifts and potential conflicts – although this is more or less second nature to most Malfians. His training as a scribe and bureaucrat has also greatly facilitated Calvin’s acquisitions of many sacred objects. In contrast to Cort, Holt is gloomy, quiet, and in terrible physical shape. However, they are quite similar in their shared lack of ambition and tolerance of alcohol – alcohol is his singular earthly vice. Holt is usually seen wearing dull robes, contrasting sharply with Calvin’s favored iridescent clothing. Holt is middle-aged, portly, and keeps his hair in a monk’s tonsure. He is the subject of several rumors regarding his possible background as a former member of a Death Cult, poisoner, Chymist, or worse. All are outrageous as they are false. Probably.
